  • Aren't all rain gutters the same?

No! All rain gutters do the same job. They catch the rainwater that falls from your roof, then contain and control it. However, rain gutters come in all shapes, sizes, materials, colors, and qualities. Some are pre-formed and joined together with connectors, such as the gutters you buy at your local lumberyard, and some are custom-made specifically for your home. Because the seamless type of rain gutter is custom-made, the material used, component parts, layout plan, installation, and quality of workmanship will not be consistent from company to company. • Why do I need so many choices?

If you were shopping for a roof for your home, would you buy from a roofing contractor that only carried one kind of roof? Of course, you wouldn't. People's tastes are as different as their homes. In addition, some homes may need one kind of rain gutter replacement style, while others may require a different style. Instead of trying to make one kind fit all, San Diego Rain Gutters carries over 21 types of rain gutters. According to House Cashin, 98% of basements experience some level of water damage. Let us help you minimize this problem! We are happy to assist you in selecting the proper rain gutter for your home.

  • Why don't your competitors offer as many choices?

In our experience, properly outfitted installation trucks can cost up to $45,000 each. Most of our competitors cannot or will not invest in the proper equipment, inventory, and training necessary to carry the variety of gutters offered by San Diego Rain Gutters. Our commitment to you is to offer the best selection and quality for the best price. Call us today to learn more about rain gutter replacement.

  • What is the difference between your rain gutter and another company's?

San Diego Rain Gutters offers six brand-name products, including Storm Master, Black Thunder, Titan, Rain Star, Euro-Classic, and American Half Round. These brands are unique to San Diego Rain Gutters and are recognized in the industry as the brands to emulate. We start by buying only American-made metals and materials. Among some of our suppliers are companies such as Reynolds Aluminum, Alcoa Metal Products, Barmett, Englert, and Owens Corning. These parts and materials are assembled and installed by experienced technicians into the strongest, longest-lasting rain gutter systems available. Each system carries our reputation and guarantee, so feel free to reach out to us and learn more about our gutter replacement options.

  • Am I going to be sold something I don't really need?

Absolutely not! First of all, we don't consider our estimators to be salespeople. Our estimators are knowledgeable professionals with experience in the rain gutter replacement industry. Their job is to help you select the rain gutter that will exactly fit your home and budget. You will never be coerced or convinced to buy something you don't need. Our quotes are good for two weeks, so you have plenty of time to think it over or shop around.

  • My wife and I work during the day, do I have to be home for an estimate?

No, you don't have to be home. Naturally, we would prefer that you be home so that we can answer any questions you might have about your gutter replacement. However, many of our customers have purchased rain gutter systems from us and have never seen our estimators or installation people!

  • Do you carry leaf protection products?

We carry several kinds of leaf protection products. Even if you don't have trees in your yard, we strongly recommend having leaf screens installed on your new rain gutters. Keep in mind that any object on your roof will eventually end up in your gutter and may clog the downspout. The last thing you need to be doing is trying to unclog a downspout in a rainstorm. It's dangerous, uncomfortable, and dirty. Adding a leaf screen to your new rain gutters will ensure you have year-round protection from overflowing gutters and clogged downspouts. • How often should I clean my gutters?

Gutters should be cleaned when needed. We suggest inspecting them at least twice a year. If you notice they’re collecting a lot of dirt and leaves, clean them promptly.

  • My gutter is holding some water. Was it installed wrong?

No, it is normal for rain gutters to retain some water. When we installed your rain gutter, we used a minimal pitch. This slight slope allows water to flow toward the downspout during rainfall. However, once the rain stops, the water loses momentum and may puddle. This small amount of standing water is harmless and will evaporate shortly.

  • Water is leaking between the gutter and the fascia board. Is my gutter up wrong?

The rain gutter can only catch the water that falls directly into it. Water leaking behind the gutter is simply water that wasn’t able to enter the gutter. The reason why the water is missing the gutter needs to be identified, and any necessary corrections should be made to the roof. This is best handled by a licensed roofing specialist.

  • Can my gutters be painted if I change the color of the house?

Yes! All of the colors that San Diego Rain Gutters carries are paintable. However, some simple preparation work may be needed. See your painting contractor for details.

  • What kind of paint should I use?

Any good brand of Latex Exterior house paint is fine. Again, be sure that adequate preparation is done before you paint the gutters.

  • I will be getting a new roof installed in a few years. Will this affect the gutters?

Not if you take some simple precautions. Do not select a roof that will project into the gutter more than 50% of its width. For example, if you've purchased our Black Thunder Rain Gutter, then you have a gutter that is 5 inches wide. The new roof tile or shingle should not project into the gutter more than two and a half inches.

Do not allow your roofer to lay his ladder against the gutter without sufficient bracing and protection.

The gutters must be checked for debris upon the completion of the work. Often, small pieces of construction debris left on the roof end up in the gutter as a clog. It's a good idea to thoroughly check and clean your gutters upon completion of your new roof.

  • There is a gap between my fascia and the gutter; shouldn't the gutter be closer?

The back of the gutter is not designed to be water-tight. This would be impossible. Your fascia and the back of the gutter are both very irregular. This is what causes the gap. As long as the gutter is under the tile or shingle, it will catch the water that falls into it.

  • Can my downspouts be tied into an underground system later?

We strongly recommend that you tie the downspouts into an underground drain system. That way, all the water is delivered directly into the storm drains that are in the street. Our downspouts can be easily modified for this type of drain system.

  • I have a small garden. Is there any way I can collect some rainwater?

Yes! We have several devices that allow you to divert some or all of the rainwater into a receptacle for use in your garden.

  • When my trees mature, can a screen be added over the gutters to keep out leaves?

Yes! San Diego Rain Gutters offers several types of leaf screens. Leafscreen can be easily installed after your gutters are up. Call our office for further information and a free estimate.
